One thing I noticed with Munch after a visit to his museum was what a fucking useless painter he was.

I've seen better stuff from school kids (his drawings/paintings of humans were diabolical)and am guessing it's only popular as he was a lunatic.

Funny thing art as most of the highly expensive stuff really is gash.

If you're planning on heading to a few museums and/or using a lot of public transport get the Oslo Pass 24hr/48hr - saved me a fortune a few weeks back.

If you are in a decent hotel the concierge will have them.

Speaking of Hotels, The Grand was decent if you go for suite, the breakfast buffet there was excellent.

Nice sunset stroll ruined by pompous vowely caterwauling coming from the opera house. Sod that.

I'd recommend getting the metro out to the ski jump and take the loft to the top. It's a nice short trip out of the city and you'll be there and back in a couple of hours.

You can spend a nice morning over on Bygdøy Peninsular, where quite a few of the museums are. The Fram Polar Ship museum was my favourite. It opens at 9am, so you could get an early bus/ferry across to make the most of your morning. They've built the museum around the ship, and you can go aboard and explore all the decks below. The Viking Ship museum is an enjoyable 30 mins, and it's right next door to the Fram.

If the weather is nice, you could then walk to the Norweigian Folk Museum, also on Bygdøy. It's a large open air museum, where they've brought lots of historical buildings from all over Norway.

A nice stroll at sunset can be had down around the Opera House. You can walk up onto the roof and wander around the harbour. Could obviously do this during the day, but might be more lively in the evenings, particularly during summer.

I didn't really rate the Munch museum, but it could be your thing.

I'm very lucky that whenever I go there my mate pays for everything and I stay at his, as he knows I wouldn't bother going otherwise.

Once went there for 4 days and dropped £900 on alcohol.

He lives right near bislet stadium, so the tiny bar evergreen is visited a lot!

I've been to Oslo a few times, and the most interesting thing to see by far is the Norwegian Resistance Museum, which is near the castle. One of the best war museums I've been to, kind of explains why to this day many Norwegians still hate the Germans and admire the UK!

Don't go in the "Nobel Peace Museum" if its still there, total rip-off.

chajon

While you are there can you please direct a sturdy blow from your size 11s into the backside of the Peruvian pan pipe players, the Romanian accordion players and the rest of the assorted trash from around the world who infest Oslo's city centre annoying the hell out of everyone.

Thanks.

Don't take your penis out in public places especially when children and ladies are present.

Do pay for any services or items you have acquired before leaving any establishment.

When I was there a couple of months ago I found the women very forthcoming and up for for fun....them knowing that I wasn't there for anything other than a fun time...Just wished I wasn't staying at a mates place where he had his Wife and Kids!!

I was a tad spooked by a Solicitor that I met that had a Rape Fetish......Swiftly walked away from her!!

But it's fuck off expensive, tenner a Beer, and I spent 28 quid on a BK Whopper meal and a Whopper w Cheese Burger for my mate,

Buses run till around 03:00 and are better than spending 85 quid for a half hour journey

Watch out for Kunta Kinte's relatives whilst you're out in the evenings - they were surprised by me fronting them out...but watch out for them immigrant fuckers of a certain religion -

Stranded 7:31 - Ha! I stayed near the station as well, it's a proper shady place at night and believe me i've been in some shady places.

And also save up, it's ridiculously expensive.

The museums on Bygdøy are very good and close to each other. You can take a ferry over. Vigelands park, A trip up to Holmenkollen and the ski jump. Nice view over Oslo.
Have a look on line at Oslo. You'll find all the museums, galleries and night life.
Oh, it is very expensive.

Don't expect any manners off of any of the male specimens you come across, they don't understand them.

I quite liked the Viking museum and as stated, vigeland park is the bollocks though helps if the sun's shining.

Re: Recommendations of things to do and not do in Oslo?
Okay. That was one of the worst bits when I was visiting Oslo regularly. All around the station, the roads off it etc. I stayed in a few of those big hotels around the station.

One visit, I couldn't understand why nobody entered the street the hotel I'd booked into was on. It was just empty all evening. Then as the evening wore on, junkies started arriving and filling up all the doorways. Turned out the hotel was directly opposite a place that handed out clean needles every morning.

No, it's under construction to make a park to revamp the area between the railway station and the operahouse.
